This is a free rhythm guitar lesson by Peter Vogl. In this lesson we will teach you about suspended chords (sus chords) and what I like to call chord ornaments. You can substitute these chords for your regular chords to add variety and texture to a song.

Lets start with the chords we are going to be messing around with - D, C, A, and G

Lets turn them into sus 4 chords.

Now here is what I like to call ornaments.

We could get analytical and say we are making a D, then a Dsus4, back to a D, a Dsus2, back to a D. but this is thinking too much. What I am really doing is making a little melody around the chord and making it sparkle a little-thus a chord ornament. Here are the C, A, & G chord ornaments.



There is no right or wrong rhythmn or order to play these in. Experiment with them. Ill play some variations on them. Let these be spring boards for your own ideas.
