This is a free rhythm guitar lesson by Peter Vogl. In this lesson we will explore different strum patterns we can use. We'll focus on adding muted strums to our rhythm patterns. This is an intermediate level lesson and you must know how to play barre chords to use this lesson.

The chords we are going to use are D at the 5th fret, C at the 3rd fret, and G at the 3rd fret. Notice with D and C, I am making a hinge bar. You may also make the chord using another fingering. G is a standard bar chord G.
Now let's strum the chord and mute. Try this pattern while playing the D chord. To mute the strings, release the pressure on the left hand enough to get a muted sound. Too much pressure on the string or too little pressure on the string is a problem.

Try playing this pattern and changing chords. Over D I will play D DU, mute and play DUDU. Change to C and strum DU. Now change to G and play D DU, mute and play DUD.
