Hard Rock in E

This free heavy metal guitar video lesson by Peter Vogl will show you how to play several rock and metal licks in the key of E. We'll use the E Minor Pentatonic scale in several postions to create these licks. We'll also practice these licks over track 2, Hard Rock in E, of the Let's Jam! Hard Rock.

Here is the Em Pentatonic Scale at the 12th fret.

E minor Pentatonic scale


The first riff takes place out of the Em Pentatonic Scale at the 12th fret. It is a bend combined with a stationary note. Here is what it looks like.


The second riff again involves a bend and a stationary note and is using the same pentatonic scale. This time the extended pentatonic scale.

Lick #3 uses the Em Pentatonic Scale around the 7th fret so let's review that scale.
