Let's start by taking a look at the Bb Mixolydian Mode.

Bb Mixolydian contains the notes Bb C D Eb F G Ab Bb. Bb Major contains the notes Bb C D Eb F G A Bb. The only difference is the note Ab, which is the flat 7. We use the flat 7 because the chord Bb7 contains the note Ab. Bb Mixolydian also has the same notes as the Eb Major scale. This means that Eb major and Bb Mixolydian are for all practical purposes the same. Here is a Eb Major scale.

So you can think of Bb Mixolydian in two ways. One is to play a Bb major scale with a flat 7. The other is to play an Eb Major scale and know that it contains the same notes as Bb Mixolydian. I am going to play this scale over track 10 of the Let's Jam! Jazz & Blues CD.
Classic Jazz Licks II by Billy Wilkie is a continuation of Billy Wilkie's series on soloing. In the first Classic Licks lesson we focused on soloing over dominant seventh chords. The single note lines we learned were in the style of George Benson and Joe Pass. In this new lesson, we'll concentrate on minor seven chords instead of dominant seventh chords. The solo ideas will be in the style of Pat Martino and will teach you how to string several long lines together. $4.99
